Working = less income and more expense

As an individual who receives government support, I was elated when I was offered an opportunity to work fulltime. It would provide me with a schedule, some consistency and a paycheck (not to mention benefits after 90 days). A friend’s husband was hiring and he and I decided we would figure out a temporary employment situation. He knows I want to be in the nonprofit arena and am over qualified for his opening. However, I wanted to work (to have more income) and he needed some help. Now, almost two months later, I realized that working actually brings in less income and more daily expense. The money I was receiving from unemployment monthly was a mere $400 less than if I were to work fulltime. There are some weeks when I don’t work 40 hours (because of doctor visits, Tanner responsibilities, job interviews, client meetings, etc).
